Hello! Welcome to my website! I am Shu-Lan, a Licensed Master's Social Worker and a Clinical Social Worker, working with children, adults, and families in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
I came from Taiwan in 1999 and have been living in Ann Arbor since then. I graduated from
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2003 and received my two Master's degrees/trainings in both Education and Social Work majoring in mental health counseling. I worked as a child therapist at Head Starts agencies in Detroit, a mental health intern counselor working with adults at Washtenaw County Community Mental Health in Ann Arbor, and a program manager, working with Asian American immigrants, including international students and families for health and mental health promotion at Eastern Michigan University School of Nursing. I have also translated two books related to mental health from English to Chinese, published in Taiwan. I published professional articles and have been a consulting eidtor for Schools & Children, NASW Express, 2011-2022. I have over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health, giving me a well-rounded experience to help my clients.
My practice involves treatment for adults and children using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) along with integrative therapy that employs body and mind approach based on each client's specific needs. The counseling process is a journey to gain awareness, to restore sufficient inner strengths, and to heal the pains, which enable one to make desired changes for life. As a trained therapist, I create a quiet and inviting space where it is safe to talk about the difficult things. I use listening skills and apply stress reducing and relaxing skills to assist you gaining your own valuable awareness of circumstance, strengthening your capacity to restore your inner resources toward the concrete steps you can take to make positive changes. I am a trilingual therapist, fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Taiwanese.
